Solve Problems in Business

How do you solve problems in business? In your business is your first thought that something can’t be done, or do you have a more supportive belief that will allow you to problem solve a solution when an issue crops up?

You need to start thinking beyond “I can’t afford that” to a more supportive belief of “How can I afford that?”.

What would it take in order for you to be able to afford to make that choice?

Frequently that thought comes to small business owners when you are thinking of bringing on an employee, and especially a first employee, but there are many other situations where the first thought that pops into your head is why something can’t be done as opposed to “How can I make it happen?”.

If you are thinking about bringing on a new employee, but you don’t currently have the funds available, then stop to think, how much extra would I need to bring in each month to make it possible?

For example, if you sell 3 extra widgets each month, then you can afford to bring on that new employee. Then if one of the responsibilities of the new hire is to sell a minimum of 3 widgets a month, you are all set. Or if bring on that new employee will free up enough of your time in order for you to make enough extra sales calls to sell those 3 extra widgets a month or some combination of the two. You then open you mind to possible solutions to the problem, instead of being closed minded to a solution even existing.

Rather than a defeatist attitude then, you have put yourself into problem solver mode in order to come up with a solution. You may need to be a little creative in order to make it happen, but at least now it is a mental possibility, instead of something that is totally impossible.

If you can make that mental shift, then you will be well on your way to success in your business and your life as well.

Problem solver mode gets you thinking differently. You become creative. Your thoughts are focused around trying to come up with a solution, whereas in the defeatist mental state, you already “know” that it can’t be done, so you don’t even try.

It’s just a slight shift in your though process, but it will have an enormous positive impact on your the success of your business.

The flip side is that conversation is that maybe you don’t want to afford whatever you are considering. That however is a totally different question and one that you should be asking of every decision that you make. Is this a smart choice, or the right choice? I’ll leave that discussion for another post.
